Buck Island Guide

Snorkel, dive, and explore St. Croix's Buck Island. John F. Kennedy established Buck Island Reef National Monument in 1961 by Presidential proclamation. Then, Bill Clinton expanded Buck Island monument in 2001. Of the 4,554 acres included in the marine park, only 176 acres are the island itself. The protected surrounding waters contain a coral reef ecosystem including several endangered and threatened species. In an effort to preserve the park and it's fragile ecosystem, the National Park Service only allows licensed tour companies to bring visitors into the park. National Geographic voted Turtle Beach on Buck Island's west end one of the 'world's most beautiful beaches'. Also, the underwater views of the barrier reef are exquisite. Remember - this is a National Park, so take only photographs and leave only footprints.
